MJV Bookish Thoughts: 2026 Reading Goals and An Invitation

Reading Time: 2 minutes

A new year means new reading goals. Time for my 2026 reading goals and I am inviting you to read with me this year. I am not starting a book club. I don’t have the bandwidth right now. But how about a quarterly buddy read? I like the sound of that. So here is your invitation to join me and let’s read a book together each quarter.

2026 Reading Goals

I am making things very simple this year. I anticipate a busy 2026 with new challenges and my new experiences so I am making reading for fun and pleasure an easy thing to do without pressure. So I am aiming for reading 24 books. Two books each month. That sounds manageable and realistic especially now that it feels like when life gets heavy or too busy, reading takes the backseat. But reading has been and will always be my most cherished hobby and I want to keep prioritising my reading time in 2026.

My Physical TBR

I have a few books on my physical TBR that I want to focus on in 2026. These include:

When We Were Birds By Ayanna Lloyd Banwo

Pleasantview by Celestine Mohammad

No Reservations by Sheryl Lister

Hungry Ghosts by Kevin Jared Hosein

River Sing Me Home by Eleanor Shearer

Q1 2026 Buddy Read Invitation

Are you on Storygraph? If you aren’t join me on Storygraph and let’s do a quarterly buddy read or well readalong. For Q1 2026 we are reading River Sing Me Home by Eleanor Shearer.

Do you want to hear about my 2025 year in books? I can dedicate a separate post to my top five or seven books of 2025. It was difficult year and I read a lot less that I typically do or previously did, but there were some hits and I can share some book recommendations, so let me if are interested in hearing some details of my 2025 year in books and I will be happy to work on that feature post.

What are your 2026 reading goals?
